Driving an Unplugged Performance Tesla Model S Plaid, Randy Pobst won the exhibition class at the 2021 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb event, posting a time of 6:57.220

After crashing and having to rebuild our Model 3 on the fly at last year’s Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, we had unfinished business in 2021.  We were back to show the true potential of Tesla’s “Alien Technology” and out to win the Exhibition Class. This year, both our factory driver Randy Pobst and our Unplugged Performance racing team sought redemption at one of the toughest racing events on the calendar. Pikes peak takes a severe toll on any competitor with 156 unrelenting turns and a touch schedule, minimal testing and practice time and challenging weather.  This year was no exception having battled through a slew of challenges in a short time with the Plaid platform we had the car ready to race on race day.

We are proud to say we did what we came to do winning the exhibition class of this year’s Pikes Peak International Hillclimb.

The Unplugged Performance Tesla Model S Plaid posted a lap time of 6:57.220 on a weather-shortened course, winning the class by a substantial margin. Even more impressive is the average speed that Randy posted on the course, a whopping 80.159 mph (129.00km/h). In more relative terms, Randy drove the treacherous and highly challenging Pikes Peak at an average speed that’s above the speed limit on most world’s motorways, proving that the UP Model S Plaid is a force to be reckoned with.

Furthermore, the trap times for this run were 1:45.183 for the first, 1:45.183 for the second, and 2:50.836 for the final, third section of the climb. Overall, there were only nine cars faster than our Model S Plaid, further solidifying the effort, mostly purpose-built race cars including open-wheel formula-style vehicles.

Overall we are thrilled to demonstrate the potential of the platform and proud to continue development on this great new chassis.  We will continue to be the innovator and the leader for Tesla performance worldwide. We’d like to thank our sponsors Bilstein, Braille Battery, and Yokohama first and foremost, but also, the entire Unplugged Performance racing team, our staff, all the fans, and everyone that supported us through this effort. However, the biggest thanks go to Tesla for making such an extraordinary machine, and to our beloved driver, Randy Pobst.  Most importantly thank you to all of our fans and supporters who have been behind us all the way. Thank you all.

6/26/2021 -Project Dark Helmet Intro Drift – UP Tesla Model S Plaid With Randy Pobst

Our longtime friend and driver Randy Pobst was enlisted to debut our Model S Plaid race car at Pikes Peak Hillclimb. During testing at Pikes Peak International Raceway this morning Randy found himself with some used Yokohama slicks end of the day. We felt these great tires deserved a proper send-off. Drifting ensued and tires were annihilated with 1020 Plaid horsepower. There is no more honorable tire death than Randy Pobst drifting in a Tesla Model S Plaid. As for the car … We call it Dark Helmet.

What our customers say
Excellent product from a great team with great customer service! The factory Model 3 Performance's suspension is rather underwhelming, so once you add the Dual Rate Linear Springs along with the Sway Bar kit and Luxury Suspension Kit it completely transforms the car! UP also stands by their...
These are absolutely THE BEST brakes (https://www.instagram.com/p/CveWNmjvKwT/) They work flawlessly lap after lap with it's nonstop stopping power, they will last forever. Incredible value for money and Highly recommend to anyone considering using their Tesla for both track and street.
Who likes shredded tires? Nobody! Fix the wonky camber on early Model S vehicles with this easy upgrade.
WIFE APPROVED!!! I have a 2018 Model 3 LR AWD with the stock 18" wheels. I've always felt that the ride was a bit stiff and jittery with the stock suspension. Looking around for a solution, I came across coil-over kits which were expensive and I really didn't think I would need the adjustability...
Significantly improved feel from this suspension kit. Don't forget yo get camber adjustments and springs that make this suspension upgrade feel like a whole new car!
These wheels are insanely light and strong! And, they look the bomb! If I didn’t look while picking them up, I would have thought they are carbon fiber! The same spec as was originally used on the Bionic Phoenix Model 3 race car! I put in my fastest time at Buttonwillow on these wheels...
This brace was an amazing upgrade for my car. I added the UP rear sway bar first then the full UP suspension then this Strut Tower Brace. I feel this completed the feel i was looking for. The cars back end feels so solid while cornering and over the bumpys feels so solid too. A noticeable...
I had my Coilovers installed by NV Auto in Hamilton Canada. They did a good job and I now have a great ride. After about a month of driving I went one step further and put new 18” rims and tires on. This really improved the ride and is is a joy to drive my Tesla again. Thanks unplugged...
This is by far the best front fascia out there and its makes the Model 3 look so much better! It gives it a much sportier look and I get comments on it all the time. One of the simplest upgrades that makes a huge difference as far as the look of the car goes. Couldn't be happier with how it looks....
These springs were the first real mod I’d ever done to my Tesla and I’m so happy with the way they turned out. They really complete the look on my model 3. And I was surprised to find you don’t sacrifice anything in terms of ride comfort by adding them. The only problem is that now that I’ve...
Bought the shock and it works great. Definitely recommend for Model Y owners on limited budget.
The Willans Safety Harness kit along with the Ascension-R Racing seat just arrived from Unplugged Performance (https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv8f-5cvDuE/) The 6-point Harness kit goes hand in hand with the design of the racing seat. It looks absolutely well made and high quality making it a must have...
The pictures on the website does not do justice. the wheels look extremely beautiful. Kirk was extremely helpful, and coordination was amazing. My wheels are gloss black, not able to add a picture to the review if not would do it. I went with slightly bigger wheels 20x10.5 front and 20X11 back. ...
Perfect companion product for the luxury suspension kit. An absolute must have for those who modify the springs of their vehicle.
I have a Tesla Model 3 LR but the rep at UP accidentally ordered the MY listing instead which is the same since both M3 and MY share most parts including struts. Purchased as the roads in DC just aren't very pleasant and combined with Tesla's stock struts, it's pretty horrendous. Delivery took...
I purchased a set of these Sway bars along with a few other upgrade components for my Model 3 (https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv8c-F2PEYP) The sway bars improve the ride quality, reduced body roll making the car more rigid and stable. Installation and setup was easy, being adjustable is an added bonus....
Tight on turns and soft on bumps--the mild springs seemed like the best option for folks who want to keep the vehicle as close to stock as possible while simultaneously improving the vehicle ride quality.
This Ascension-R Racing seat just arrived from Unplugged Performance (https://www.instagram.com/p/Cv8f-5cvDuE/) It looks absolutely well manufactured, high quality and lightweight making it a must have accessory on any Tesla going to the track! Looks stunning and well designed!!
