Driving an Unplugged Performance Tesla Model S Plaid, Randy Pobst won the exhibition class at the 2021 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb event, posting a time of 6:57.220

After crashing and having to rebuild our Model 3 on the fly at last year’s Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, we had unfinished business in 2021.  We were back to show the true potential of Tesla’s “Alien Technology” and out to win the Exhibition Class. This year, both our factory driver Randy Pobst and our Unplugged Performance racing team sought redemption at one of the toughest racing events on the calendar. Pikes peak takes a severe toll on any competitor with 156 unrelenting turns and a touch schedule, minimal testing and practice time and challenging weather.  This year was no exception having battled through a slew of challenges in a short time with the Plaid platform we had the car ready to race on race day.

We are proud to say we did what we came to do winning the exhibition class of this year’s Pikes Peak International Hillclimb.

The Unplugged Performance Tesla Model S Plaid posted a lap time of 6:57.220 on a weather-shortened course, winning the class by a substantial margin. Even more impressive is the average speed that Randy posted on the course, a whopping 80.159 mph (129.00km/h). In more relative terms, Randy drove the treacherous and highly challenging Pikes Peak at an average speed that’s above the speed limit on most world’s motorways, proving that the UP Model S Plaid is a force to be reckoned with.

Furthermore, the trap times for this run were 1:45.183 for the first, 1:45.183 for the second, and 2:50.836 for the final, third section of the climb. Overall, there were only nine cars faster than our Model S Plaid, further solidifying the effort, mostly purpose-built race cars including open-wheel formula-style vehicles.

Overall we are thrilled to demonstrate the potential of the platform and proud to continue development on this great new chassis.  We will continue to be the innovator and the leader for Tesla performance worldwide. We’d like to thank our sponsors Bilstein, Braille Battery, and Yokohama first and foremost, but also, the entire Unplugged Performance racing team, our staff, all the fans, and everyone that supported us through this effort. However, the biggest thanks go to Tesla for making such an extraordinary machine, and to our beloved driver, Randy Pobst.  Most importantly thank you to all of our fans and supporters who have been behind us all the way. Thank you all.

6/26/2021 -Project Dark Helmet Intro Drift – UP Tesla Model S Plaid With Randy Pobst

Our longtime friend and driver Randy Pobst was enlisted to debut our Model S Plaid race car at Pikes Peak Hillclimb. During testing at Pikes Peak International Raceway this morning Randy found himself with some used Yokohama slicks end of the day. We felt these great tires deserved a proper send-off. Drifting ensued and tires were annihilated with 1020 Plaid horsepower. There is no more honorable tire death than Randy Pobst drifting in a Tesla Model S Plaid. As for the car … We call it Dark Helmet.

What our customers say
Dominic Marcu - Racing Driver the car is heavy. With these elements we get rid of quite a lot of weight. They look good, and they are of the highest quality!
I installed these because with my previous set of UP lowering springs I really had uneven tire wear and it costed me a lot of tires. Installation was easy and the products look high quality. Let's see how the rubbers hold up. For now I used the same length as the original arms but made an...
Dominic Marcu - Racing Driver perfect! with their help I can have the desired setup for the competition car.
Installed front big brake kit and noticed extreme improvement over stock model x plaid brakes. Later installed the rear carbon ceramic rotors and pads and noticed an appreciable increase in braking power and am now quite comfortable braking from speeds in the 160mph range and that was not the case...
My wife drives a Model Y as her daily driver and for a commuter car the model Y suspension can be very harsh. Purchased the luxury coilovers and sway bars to help with this. Only 1 mechanic in North Carolina was certified to do it that was in the unplugged performance network and I had problems...
After lowering my Model 3 on coilovers I was having all kinds of clunking noises come from the front sway bars links. Initially, I purchased a different brand of adjustable links and they clunked no matter what I did (shortening, lengthening, removal and re-torqued them countless times), so I...
I upgraded bushing to address an issue I had with lower control arm. Instead of buying OEM, decided to upgrade to spherical bushing from Unplugged. Definitely worth the upgrade. I recommend upgrade.

Purchased the sway bar for my plaid about a year ago after hearing good things about it on the Tesla forum. Unfortunately, I got super busy and I didn’t get a chance to install it until recently. Very happy with the purchase and there’s a very noticeable improvement in handling. The car also...

I really like how understated this lip is. It blends in perfectly with the existing bumper but you can still tell there is something unique about your car when it's installed. I have a grey model 3 and purchased the painted one. Although the site says it's not the exact same as the factory color, I...
Just installed the UP super performance lowering springs and they completely changed my car, the handling improvement is incredible, feels like it's on rails.
My wife drives a Model Y as her daily driver and for a commuter car the model Y suspension can be very harsh with a lot of body roll. Purchased the luxury coilovers and sway bars to help with this. Only 1 mechanic in North Carolina was certified to do it that was in the unplugged performance...
I opted to get the race spec coilovers since I track the car. I’m very pleased with the performance of the coilovers. Not to mention the ride height is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to the Unplugged team for their willingness to assist and answer my questions. They are very...
I recently purchased the UP-03 Race Spec Wheels for my Tesla Model 3 from Unplugged Performance. Although the wheels look great and undoubtedly enhance the driving experience, I encountered a few issues during the process. Firstly, I was not informed that I would need spacers for the UP validated...
Sway bars changed behavior of car. It was straight forward to install. Thanks to the Unplugged team for providing guidance on the correct way to setup sway bar with the adjustable end links. Very happy with product!
I really like the new moderate lowering spring for my Model Y performance. The set lowered the car by roughly 1 inch (2.5cm) I have the feeling that the car provides a smoother ride than stock. You feel it when driving over small bumps. The car is still stiff but I like it better that stock and...
The Side Skirt Set really improved the look and feel of the TM3. It ties in the front fascia unit and the rear spoiler looks fantastic as well. It makes for a lower look and a sleek ride. I'm very impressed at the pictures and I have been given compliments on its finish. The paint matched the...
Dominic Marcu - Racing Driver Just perfect for my car
Been waiting for this part from UP since purchasing my coilovers almost 2 years ago. This part is completely much more superior than the OEM part and steering feel is much more accurate and responsive.
