If you’re lucky enough to own a new Tesla Model Y Juniper and are looking to upgrade how it drives, congrats.

You might be asking yourself where to start. Wheels and tires are obvious. Lowering springs or coilovers are common. But one of the most overlooked upgrades for the Model Y platform is also one of the most noticeable: sway bars.

TLDR: A Model Y Juniper content creator (@TheFitITGuy) recently installed Unplugged Performance Adjustable Front and Rear Sway Bars on his 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive and called them the “missing link” in his suspension setup. After testing them on low-speed turns, higher-speed corners, highway lane changes, and with five passengers in the car, he said the Model Y felt more planted, more direct, and more confidence-inspiring than it did on the factory sway bars.

Why the Model Y Benefits So Much From Sway Bars

The Model Y is an incredibly capable EV platform, but it is still a taller, heavier crossover. Tesla lists the current Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive at 4,184 lbs, with the Premium All-Wheel Drive at 4,473 lbs. It also offers up to 76 cu ft of cargo space and 6.6 inches of ground clearance, which makes it practical, but also means there is more body movement to manage compared to a lower sedan like Model 3.

That weight is carried low thanks to the battery pack, but during cornering, lane changes, and on-ramps, the chassis still experiences lateral load transfer. Add instant EV torque, taller ride height, passengers, cargo, or upgraded tires, and the factory sway bars can quickly become the limiting factor.

As the creator explained in his review, the stock Model Y Juniper sway bars felt thin and easily overloaded by the vehicle’s weight and power. Before the upgrade, he noticed body roll, tire screeching, and moments where the car felt like it was leaning heavily onto an outside tire. After installing the UP bars in the middle adjustment setting, his feedback changed immediately: the car felt planted, direct, and stable.

What the Front and Rear Sway Bars Do

The front sway bar helps sharpen steering response, reduce front-end body roll, and manage understeer. That matters because the Model Y can feel light or delayed during quick steering inputs, especially when pushed through a corner.

The rear sway bar helps reduce rear-end roll, increase agility, and make the car rotate more naturally. For many drivers, this is the upgrade that makes the Model Y feel less like a crossover and more like a performance vehicle.
Together, the front and rear setup gives the chassis a more balanced feel. The content creator described the difference as a car that simply went where he pointed it, with less slop and more confidence through every turn.

Installation Options

For DIY owners, this is a straightforward install compared to springs or coilovers. In the video, the creator removed the underbody panels, disconnected the end links, swapped the bars, greased the bushings, selected the middle adjustment setting, and reinstalled the panels.
