Q: Can I use spacers instead of different wheels?
Yes! You definitely can. It is very common in the automotive enthusiast market to use wheel spacers to improve the aesthetics of their vehicle, but also to increase the overall track width of the vehicle, which in turn can improve overall vehicle stability. The potential drawbacks of choosing spacers over aftermarket wheels with a different offset are that you will be adding unsprung rotational weight to each wheel, and possibly adding additional points of failure if a studded spacer is used. People often ask about safety, handling, and legality of wheel spacers. This definitely helps cool down my drive unit quicker. I'm able to run a hot lap at the track, then a single cooldown lap to bring the drivetrain temperature back into the green. It was awesome seeing it cool down within a lap at Buttonwillow.
