Not all springs are created equal. As with all Unplugged Performance products, our performance springs used for our coilovers and lowering springs are engineered by the best, to perform the best. For many reasons outlined below, Unplugged Performance turns to Japan’s rich history in steel production and its persistent dedication to perfection for the engineering and manufacturing of our Tesla Model 3 and Y Lowering Springs and Coilover Set springs.
Let’s start with a brief history lesson. Throughout centuries past, Japanese craftsmen have been coveted for their skills and precision. In wars and combat, Japanese craftsmen were sought after as ideal prisoners because of the quality of work they’d be able to produce and the learnings other cultures could adopt for their own. This is evident in, and directly related to the Samurai sword, a weapon invented with the utmost precise engineering in materials and craftsmanship to best any enemy or opponent.
Much of the Samurai sword’s success is due to the engineering of the metal materials used in the production process, nearly perfecting the ability to achieve +/- 99.9% pure carbon steel, essentially, optimizing for strength, precision, durability, and consistency.
Fast-forward to today, the Japanese apply the same dedication to the perfection of metal, in this case for the benefit of many Unplugged Performance suspension products including. Some of our lowering springs and coilover springs are produced in collaboration with Swift, a premiere Japanese spring maker that is a division of Tohatsu Japan, the leader in mission-critical springs for aerospace and automotive applications.
Swift has perfected the elaborate process of superheating and oil cooling their own formula of metals that include manganese and alloys along with high-purity steel. The result has numerous benefits that make the springs perform better and last longer. The process allows for a thinner spring. Not only does this reduce spring weight by 11%, but it creates a smoother compression of the spring that nearly mitigates high-speed compression damage. Strength is significantly increased over traditional springs and creates a more consistent spring rate during the compression stroke. Age-related spring sagging is a thing of the past and the static-misting finish creates a thinner, yet stronger, coating for maximum corrosion resistance.
One of the strongest benefits of the precise manufacturing process is that Unplugged Performance can create more consistent spring rates from one spring to the next which means springs can be designed for precise performance with a low tolerance risk resulting in better handling and ongoing performance.
This level of precision applies to our Model 3 and Model Y Dual Rate Linear Lowering Springs as well as our Model 3 and Model Y Luxury Pro, Sport Pro, Pro Race, and Dirt & Snow Coilover sets. Whichever suspension kit you choose, you’ll be equipped with the same springs that have gone through countless hours of computer-assisted research and development as well as on our record-setting race cars and multiple-time over cross-country drives. No matter your application: racing, canyon-driving, or even comfortable daily driving, remain confident that the Japanese engineering process means your springs will perform with high performance, and consistently for the long term.
