MotorTrend gives us a great piece on all-electric performance driving, whilst attending TeslaCorsa, the world’s first Tesla-only track day event, featuring an Unplugged Performance Tesla Model 3 Ascension-R
For us, popularizing all-electric vehicles as track machines is one of the perks of our business. Simply put, we love racing and we love taking our modified Teslas to the track. It’s a great way to test our performance modifications, expand our knowledge in the field, but also, meet fellow Tesla enthusiasts that are a wealth of opinions & ideas for future products and builds. Hence, a few weeks ago, at one of TeslaCorsa events, we had the crew from MotorTrend in attendance, taking the Unplugged Performance Ascension-R Model 3 through its paces at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park.
TeslaCorsa was founded to encourage Tesla owners to experience the limits of their cars in a professionally managed race track environment. By exploring the limits in a controlled environment, drivers can ensure maximum fun, safety, and the absence of speeding tickets. In turn, this allows you to enjoy a day at the track surrounded by fellow Tesla friends and create great memories that will be captured by professional photographers and videographers. As a result, this is slowly becoming one of the most attractive EV events in the world, garnering thousands of attendees every year. We visited California’s Buttonwillow Raceway to assess a modified Tesla Model 3 called the Unplugged Performance Ascension R. Our drive occurred during a Tesla Corsa track day, a high-performance-driving event series open exclusively to Teslas. There were about 30 drivers present; talking with them between sessions, we met electric car enthusiasts with diverse backgrounds and motivations. Yet a consistent theme emerged, one not so different from other motorsports enthusiasts: Everyone was there to drive quickly and have a good time. How much fun are electric cars when it comes to pure driving? This is what they told us.
Seeing lots of other drivers enjoy their time in slightly or more heavily modified Teslas on the track was a revealing experience for the MotorTrend staff. However, the whole thing got even more interesting once they’ve set foot in a fully modified Unplugged Performance Ascension R Model 3.
Our laps in the Unplugged Performance Ascension R Model 3 left us thrilled and impressed. But fast cars alone won’t bring gearheads into the electric era. Rather, enthusiasts like the ones we met at Tesla Corsa are ready and willing to show other passionate drivers how EVs offer them a new platform for their hobby.
It was great seeing such a trusted motoring site pay a visit to TeslaCorsa and to have them experience the capabilities of our Ascension-R Model 3 is definitely something we’re proud of, but TeslaCorsa goes well beyond Unplugged Performance or MotorTrend. It’s an event where obvious camaraderie happens. It’s where individuals, sporting different performance upgrades from various companies, modifying their vehicles in novel ways, come together for the future of the car industry through electrification. Simply put, we are grateful to be a part of such a forward-thinking group of people and we will support them the best way we can with both our products and expertise.
