Unplugged Performance X PFC Tesla Model 3 and Model Y Iron 6-Piston Front Big Brake Kit (BBK) UP x PFC
Engineered and made in the USA – Extensively tested on the Nurburgring!
Many customers want a track-capable big brake kit that doesn’t break the bank. This is the absolute best-of-breed no-compromise iron rotor big brake kit. We leverage the same proven calipers from our racing-winning Superlight Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit and combine it with Performance Friction (PFC) built V3 iron rotors and our PFC produced specially designed brake pad compounds. For racers, PFC needs no introduction, but for those newer to motorsports, PFC is the official brake supplier for Porsche factory motorsports vehicles including Porsche 991 GT3 Cup race cars. PFC brakes helped power our friends at BBi to multiple Pikes Peak victories at the 2021 PPHIC where our Tesla Model S Plaid also took top honors in its class. PFC ZeroFailures rotors are well respected for unmatched durability under the harshest racing conditions. The V3 version PFC rotors we use are the latest generation of PFC’s patented technology and impressively do not utilize traditional bolt hardware to join the 2pc rotor/hat design. This also makes them more silent and rattle-free than traditional bolted 2-piece rotor designs.
The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are very capable track day weapons but the considerable weight of the vehicle overtaxes the stock braking system, even with upgraded components. Our class-leading carbon ceramic BFB kit has had rave reviews for years and we’re excited to bring comparable braking performance with a class-leading iron rotor solution at a more affordable cost. For advanced drivers, we’ve found that they all benefit greatly from the extreme size and extreme performance of our BFB kits. This benefit has at times been mentioned in quotes like from Oscar Jackson Jr “I’m picking the same braking points with the Tesla as I do when I race Spec Miatas”. At other times what this means is that there’s finally enough repeatable stopping power to confidently trim back or remove regen which provides the benefit of helping thermal management when racing. Ultimately quality matters and size matters as well. This kit has the best of both worlds with the highest quality components from the world’s best factories combined with the massive sizing of 394x35mm rotors and 6 piston calipers that any track-driven Tesla truly needs to win.
This huge 394mm 6 Piston UP Iron BFB kit does indeed fit with UP’s 18″ forged race wheels and can fit some other but not all 18″ forged wheels with high inner barrel clearance (18″ Model 3 stock wheels will not fit). 19″ wheels and above will fit even more easily with less thought needed. Please contact us if any concerns about fitting your car’s wheels.
A further note on the unique PFC V3 ZeroFailure rotor technology
Performance Friction (PFC) full floating Direct Drive attachment system allows the brake disc to naturally expand/contract both radially and axially without being constrained by the hub. This helps eliminate rotor warping, reduces drag, and eliminates thermal judder vibrations and pulsations. Due to the high quality of PFC’s design and manufacturing, the Direct Drive rotors are completely silent and rattle-free – a trait not typically found in 2-piece designs. PFC custom develops their own proprietary metallurgy for these rotors as well to ensure the longest lifespan and best performance.

A NOTE ON BRAKE FLUID & HIGH-PERFORMANCE DRIVING
Brake fluid plays a vital role in the performance and reliability of every brake system, especially so in high-performance driving. A professional brake bleed with high-performance fluid is a requirement for the functionality of our brake system. We recommend using Motul RBF 660 (our go-to fluid) or Endless RF-650 brake fluid. Brake fluid should be flushed frequently for race cars in particular because over time moisture content builds and moisture inherently decreases the temperature limit of the brake fluid. Brake fluid and its temperature capabilities of it matter especially due to the high temperatures the heavy and powerful Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance generate.
The higher temperatures seen in the brake system transfer heat to the brake fluid and when the brake fluid boils those bubbles create air in the brake lines. Air in the brake lines from the boiled fluid can create a near-instant loss of the brake pedal. Therefore, using a high temp brake fluid and managing brake heat is key to safe braking for extreme environments. Loss of pedal is a different symptom than brake fade and typically a symptom of brake fluids exceeding their temperature range (or alternatively a leak in the system) whereas brake fade is often a byproduct of the brake pads exceeding the operating temperature range.
In both cases managing temperatures in a racing environment and adequate testing is typically found in motorsports drivers and always strongly encouraged to get the best and most safe result. We flush our brake fluid after each race and we monitor caliper temperatures for these same reasons on our race cars. Please always feel welcome to talk to our team if you have questions about motorsport use. For street driving the temperatures seen are significantly less and this plays a lesser role although the same fluids are suggested for street cars as well.

What are the rotor and caliper specs on this iron big brake kit?
It runs 394mm x 35mm iron rotors, about 15.5 inches, with 6-piston monoblock aluminum calipers. The rotors use PFC’s V3 two-piece floating design, and the calipers are the same ones from our Superlight Carbon Ceramic kit. That combination of massive size and 6-piston clamping is what a track-driven Model 3 or Model Y needs, since the car’s weight overtaxes even upgraded stock brakes.
Does this kit fit every Model 3 and Model Y?
It fits all generations of Model 3 and Model 3 Performance, and all generations of Model Y and Model Y Performance. You select 2017-2023 Model 3, 2024+ Model 3, or Model Y at checkout, plus caliper color. An early Model 3 or a current Model Y, the front kit covers both. Rear and pad choices are configured separately.
Will this 6-piston kit clear my wheels?
The 394mm kit fits UP’s 18-inch forged race wheels and some, but not all, 18-inch forged wheels with high inner-barrel clearance; 18-inch Model 3 stock wheels will not fit. 19-inch wheels and larger clear it more easily with less thought. If you are unsure whether your current wheels work, contact us with the specifics before ordering and we will check clearance.
Who is PFC and why build the kit around their rotors?
PFC, Performance Friction, is the official brake supplier for Porsche factory motorsports, including 991 GT3 Cup cars, and their ZeroFailure rotors are respected for durability under the harshest racing conditions. This kit uses their latest V3 rotors, which join the two-piece rotor and hat without traditional bolts, making them quieter and more rattle-free than typical bolted two-piece designs. For racers, PFC needs no introduction.
How does the floating rotor design help on track?
PFC’s full-floating Direct Drive attachment lets the disc expand and contract radially and axially without being constrained by the hub. That helps eliminate rotor warping while cutting drag, and it kills thermal judder, the vibration and pulsation you feel through a warped rotor. It also runs silent and rattle-free, which two-piece designs usually cannot claim. On a heavy car generating big heat, that stability keeps the pedal consistent.
What comes in the box with this front kit?
The kit includes the 6-piston calipers with hardware, the 394mm PFC V3 rotors, PFC pads designed specifically for this kit, 6061 billet caliper adapter brackets, and German TUV-produced stainless steel braided brake lines made for the Model 3 and Model Y. It has everything needed to install except high-performance brake fluid, which you supply from any auto parts retailer. When the friction eventually wears, replacement PFC pads are the correct service part. Components are made in the USA, Italy, and Germany.
Iron big brake kit versus carbon-ceramic, which should I buy?
This iron kit brings comparable braking performance to our carbon-ceramic BFB at a more affordable cost, which is why many track customers pick it. Carbon-ceramic is lighter and even more heat-immune, but it costs considerably more. If you want no-compromise stopping power without the carbon price, iron is the value play. Pair it with the matching carbon-ceramic rear kit if you want a bigger rear too.
Can your shop install this, and what does the job involve?
Yes, we install it at our Hawthorne, California facility, and it is the recommended route given the brake-line swap and required bleed. The kit uses braided lines and needs a professional bleed with high-performance fluid such as Motul RBF 660 or Endless RF-650 to function safely. Local Los Angeles owners can book install with us; otherwise an experienced brake shop should handle the fitment and bedding.
Will upgrading my brakes void the Tesla warranty?
Tesla’s warranty covers factory-installed parts, but it does not automatically void your warranty if you install aftermarket components like Unplugged Performance brake kits. Under U.S. law (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act), Tesla must prove that an aftermarket part caused a failure in order to deny warranty coverage. Our parts are engineered to work harmoniously with Tesla OEM Brake systems and can be professionally installed by Unplugged Performance in Hawthorne, CA or by an authorized installer to minimize risk. That said, any damage directly caused by misuse or improper installation may not be covered. We recommend retaining all factory parts so you can revert to stock if needed. Many Tesla owners enjoy peace of mind by using Unplugged Performance products, which are extensively tested and installed by certified professionals. If warranty concerns are top-of-mind, our team can help clarify compatibility and installation best practices to ensure a worry-free experience.
What does the Unplugged Performance product warranty cover?
Unplugged Performance offers a comprehensive warranty on all parts and installations performed by our certified technicians. Warranty coverage applies to defects in materials and workmanship on items including lowering springs, coilovers, big brake kits, brake pads, stainless steel brake lines, shocks, and more. Should any covered part fail under normal use or display premature wear, we will repair or replace it at no additional cost—assuming the component was installed by us or at one of our authorized partners.
This warranty is valid for 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, excluding consumable products like brake pads, rotors, and tires, starting from the installation date. Coverage extends to labor for warranty repairs when performed by Unplugged Performance or an authorized installer. It does not cover damage resulting from misuse, accidents, off‑road use, improper installation not done by us, or modifications that aren’t factory-approved.
To file a warranty claim, simply contact our service team. We’ll guide you through inspection, shipping (if needed), and repair or replacement logistics. transparencia and top-tier support are what you can expect from Unplugged.
Will installing Unplugged Performance parts void my Tesla warranty?
Installing aftermarket parts does not automatically void your Tesla warranty. Under the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act (www.sema.org/sema-enews/2011/01/ftc-validates-right-to-install-aftermarket-parts), a manufacturer cannot void your warranty simply because you installed aftermarket parts. Tesla must prove that the aftermarket part caused the specific failure in question to deny a warranty claim. UP recommends retaining all factory parts to allow reverting to stock if needed.Â
