A NOTE ON BRAKE FLUID & HIGH-PERFORMANCE DRIVING:
Brake fluid plays a vital role in the performance and reliability of every brake system, especially in high-performance driving. A professional brake bleed with high-performance fluid is a requirement for the functionality of our brake system. We recommend using Motul RBF 660 (our go-to fluid) or Endless RF-650 brake fluid. Brake fluid should be flushed frequently for race cars in particular because over time moisture content builds and moisture inherently decreases the temperature limit of the brake fluid. Brake fluid and its temperature capabilities matter especially due to the high temperatures the heavy and powerful Model S generates.
The higher temperatures seen in the brake system transfer heat to the brake fluid and when the brake fluid boils those bubbles create air in the brake lines. Air in the brake lines from boiled fluid can create a near-instant loss of the brake pedal. Therefore, using a high-temperature brake fluid and managing brake heat is key to safe braking in extreme environments. Loss of pedal is a different symptom than brake fade and typically a symptom of brake fluids exceeding their temperature range (or alternatively a leak in the system) whereas brake fade is often a byproduct of the brake pads exceeding the operating temperature range. In both cases managing temperatures in a racing environment and adequate testing is typically found in motorsports drivers and always strongly encouraged to get the best and safest result.
We flush our brake fluid after each race and we monitor caliper temperatures for these same reasons on our race cars. Please always feel welcome to talk to our team if you have questions about motorsport use. For street driving the temperatures seen are significantly less and this plays a lesser role although the same fluids are suggested for street cars as well.

What is a Model S Plaid brake upgrade that keeps the stock calipers?
The UP x PFC Large Sweep set upgrades your rotors and pads while reusing the factory Model S Plaid calipers, so you get more braking capacity without a full big brake kit. It uses a wider-annulus rotor and a matched pad to gain 11% more pad sweep and a thicker 34mm rotor versus the factory 32mm. Front prototypes weigh roughly 35lbs per axle against 58lbs stock, about 40% lighter, which cuts rotating mass while raising thermal capacity.
How does a wider-annulus rotor actually improve braking?
A wider annulus gives the pad more usable rotor surface to sweep across, so you generate more friction and spread heat over a larger area within the same wheel space. On this set that means an 11% larger pad sweep and a 6.5% thicker rotor for extra thermal mass, all without moving the caliper. More swept area and more metal to soak up heat is what lets a heavy, fast Model S brake harder, more times in a row.
Does this fit the 2021 and newer Model S and Plaid with 19-inch wheels?
Yes. It is built for the 2021+ Model S and Model S Plaid, and because no caliper relocation is needed it clears 19-inch performance wheels and fits everything from 19 to 22 inches. The rotors come from PFC’s Porsche 911 GT3R race program and use PFC’s patented V3 hats that attach without bolts. The front kit replaces Tesla parts 1420611-00-C and 1621000-00-A.
Can I run the Large Sweep rotors with my factory Tesla brake pads?
No. Large Sweep rotors work only with Large Sweep pads, and Large Sweep pads work only with Large Sweep rotors. The wider annulus is a matched pairing, so mixing in an OEM pad or rotor defeats the design and is something we strongly advise against. Buy the rotor and pad together, or order the matching replacement pad or rotor when it is time to refresh.
Do I need a brake fluid flush after installing these?
A professional brake bleed with high-temperature fluid is required for the system to work as intended. We recommend Motul RBF 660 or Endless RF-650, since the heavy, powerful Model S pushes a lot of heat into the fluid and boiled fluid can cause a near-instant loss of pedal. Fresh high-temp fluid keeps the pedal firm. Flush it often if you run the car on track.
How does this compare to the carbon ceramic big brake kit?
This set keeps your OEM calipers and upgrades the rotor and pad, so it is the lighter-cost path to better stopping. Is there a front and a rear version of this kit?
Yes, you choose front or rear. The rear Large Sweep rotor and pad combination offers 55mm of sweep versus the factory 47mm, and pads and disks can be replaced independently down the road. You can also choose Street or Racing and Competition pads, or keep an extra set on hand to swap between street and track duty without changing rotors.
Should I add brake ducts or stainless lines with this?
For track use we recommend pairing the set with our Stainless Steel Sport Brake Line Set and a brake cooling duct kit, plus the competition pad option and Tesla’s Track Mode. Street drivers get plenty from the rotors, pads, and good fluid alone. The lines firm up the pedal and a brake cooling duct kit manages heat when you are pushing hard repeatedly.
Will these brakes hurt my acceleration or efficiency?
They help. Cutting roughly 40% of the rotating mass at each front corner, with prototypes around 35lbs per axle versus 58lbs stock, reduces the inertia the drivetrain has to spin up and slow down. Lower unsprung and rotating weight sharpens both acceleration and deceleration and can nudge efficiency in the right direction, while the thicker rotor still raises heat capacity.
Does upgrading these rotors and pads affect my Tesla warranty?
Installing them does not automatically void your Tesla coverage. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Tesla would have to show that the aftermarket part caused a specific failure to deny that claim. Keep your factory rotors and pads so you can revert if needed. Note that brake rotors and pads are consumables, so our own 2-year parts warranty covers workmanship rather than normal wear on these items.
What does the Unplugged Performance product warranty cover?
Unplugged Performance offers a comprehensive warranty on all parts and installations performed by our certified technicians. Warranty coverage applies to defects in materials and workmanship on items including lowering springs, coilovers, big brake kits, brake pads, stainless steel brake lines, shocks, and more. Should any covered part fail under normal use or display premature wear, we will repair or replace it at no additional cost—assuming the component was installed by us or at one of our authorized partners.
This warranty is valid for 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, excluding consumable products like brake pads, rotors, and tires, starting from the installation date. Coverage extends to labor for warranty repairs when performed by Unplugged Performance or an authorized installer. It does not cover damage resulting from misuse, accidents, off‑road use, improper installation not done by us, or modifications that aren’t factory-approved.

Will installing Unplugged Performance parts void my Tesla warranty?
Installing aftermarket parts does not automatically void your Tesla warranty. Under the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act (www.sema.org/sema-enews/2011/01/ftc-validates-right-to-install-aftermarket-parts), a manufacturer cannot void your warranty simply because you installed aftermarket parts. Tesla must prove that the aftermarket part caused the specific failure in question to deny a warranty claim. UP recommends retaining all factory parts to allow reverting to stock if needed.
