TESLA 2021 MODEL S PLAID BRAKE GUIDE FOR HIGH-PERFORMANCE DRIVING
The UP x PFC Front Large Sweep Brake Package is designed to maximize braking performance with the factory Tesla brake calipers. Clever packaging is a key attribute of these kits which is made possible by integrated PFC x UP brake pad/rotor engineering. The result of this packaging provides an 11% increase in pad sweep along with a 6.5% increase in rotor thickness and approx 40% weight savings, all without relocating the caliper.
The pad sweep increase is gained by utilizing a wider annulus rotor and an appropriately sized brake pad to utilize this special pairing. This ensures more usable rotor and pad in the same dimensions, allowing 19″ performance wheel/tire packages to be used (fits all wheels 19-22″). Our engineering ethos around maximizing results with creative integrated engineering keeps rotational mass at a minimum while maximizing brake pad contact area, rotor thickness and therefore maximizing the thermal capacity of the factory calipers.

The rotors included have a world-class pedigree and come from PFC’s Porsche 911 GT3R race car program. They utilize PFC’s patented V3 hats which require no bolts in their hyper-efficient attachment to the rotor. PFC is UP’s exclusive brake partner and is world-renowned for being the global brake upgrade partner chosen by Porsche Motorsports for Porsche competition race cars. PFC engineering and production boasts the highest quality materials to stand up to the harshest of uses on the track. For all of our brake upgrades for Tesla Model S Plaid or Long Range we recommend pairing them with high-temperature racing brake fluid such as Motul RBF 660, PFC RH 665, Endless RF 650, Castrol SRF, or similar racing brake fluids and our Stainless Steel Brake Lines. For track use please combine with our brake duct kit, or competition brake pads and with Tesla’s Track Mode for best results.
- UP x PFC Front Rotors are 34mm vs factory 32mm thickness for increased thermal mass.
- UPxPFC Rotors Diameter size: 380mm
- UP x PFC Front Rotors have a 11% wider annulus than the factory rotor for a maximized sweep.
- UP x PFC Rear Rotor and Pad combination offers 55mm of sweep vs factory 47mm.
- Purpose-built rotor and pad combination for 10% more swept area and a thicker rotor.
- Efficient 2pc lightweight engineering that is approx. 40% lighter (prototypes are 35lbs vs 58lbs for front axle)
- Maximum thermal mass and maximum pad contact/sweep on the stock caliper.
- No caliper relocation is required allowing 19″ wheels/tires (and larger) to be used with the lowest rotating mass for improved acceleration and deceleration.
- Easy replacement of pads and disks independently.
- Choose either Street or Racing & Competition pads, or pick up an extra set so you can easily swap between them.
- We recommend pairing any of our brake upgrades with our UP Stainless Steel Brake Lines and Brake Ducting Kit
- We strongly recommend against attempting to use Large Sweep components independently. Large Sweep rotors should only be used with Large Sweep Pads, and Large Sweep Pads should only be used with Large Sweep Rotors.
- The Front Large Sweep Kit replaces Tesla parts: 1420611-00-C x 2 and 1621000-00-A x 2
- The Rear Large Sweep Kit replaces Tesla parts: 1420631-00-A x 2 and 1562160-00-A x 2
A NOTE ON BRAKE FLUID & HIGH-PERFORMANCE DRIVING:
Brake fluid plays a vital role in the performance and reliability of every brake system, especially in high-performance driving. A professional brake bleed with high-performance fluid is a requirement for the functionality of our brake system. We recommend using Motul RBF 660 (our go-to fluid) or Endless RF-650 brake fluid. Brake fluid should be flushed frequently for race cars in particular because over time moisture content builds and moisture inherently decreases the temperature limit of the brake fluid. Brake fluid and its temperature capabilities matter especially due to the high temperatures the heavy and powerful Model S generates.
The higher temperatures seen in the brake system transfer heat to the brake fluid and when the brake fluid boils those bubbles create air in the brake lines. Air in the brake lines from boiled fluid can create a near-instant loss of the brake pedal. Therefore, using a high-temperature brake fluid and managing brake heat is key to safe braking in extreme environments. Loss of pedal is a different symptom than brake fade and typically a symptom of brake fluids exceeding their temperature range (or alternatively a leak in the system) whereas brake fade is often a byproduct of the brake pads exceeding the operating temperature range. In both cases managing temperatures in a racing environment and adequate testing is typically found in motorsports drivers and always strongly encouraged to get the best and safest result.
We flush our brake fluid after each race and we monitor caliper temperatures for these same reasons on our race cars. Please always feel welcome to talk to our team if you have questions about motorsport use. For street driving the temperatures seen are significantly less and this plays a lesser role although the same fluids are suggested for street cars as well.

What does the Unplugged Performance product warranty cover?
Unplugged Performance offers a comprehensive warranty on all parts and installations performed by our certified technicians. Warranty coverage applies to defects in materials and workmanship on items including lowering springs, coilovers, big brake kits, brake pads, stainless steel brake lines, shocks, and more. Should any covered part fail under normal use or display premature wear, we will repair or replace it at no additional cost—assuming the component was installed by us or at one of our authorized partners.
This warranty is valid for 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, excluding consumable products like brake pads, rotors, and tires, starting from the installation date. Coverage extends to labor for warranty repairs when performed by Unplugged Performance or an authorized installer. It does not cover damage resulting from misuse, accidents, off‑road use, improper installation not done by us, or modifications that aren’t factory-approved.
To file a warranty claim, simply contact our service team. We’ll guide you through inspection, shipping (if needed), and repair or replacement logistics. transparencia and top-tier support are what you can expect from Unplugged.
Will Tesla void my warranty if I install aftermarket parts?
A vehicle’s comprehensive warranty as a whole may not be voided due to use of aftermarket parts per the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act (www.sema.org/sema-enews/2011/01/ftc-validates-right-to-install-aftermarket-parts). However, a manufacturer may require a customer to pay for parts and labor for a repair if there is direct causation between a customer’s alteration and the product or service repair being requested. It is in both manufacturer and customer’s interest to follow logic and reason so that the system of good faith is not abused. If this topic interests you please read the law as well as your warranty documentation. Ultimately we are Tesla owners and enthusiasts, we are not lawyers and cannot provide legal advice.
