UP FORGED UP-03
The UP-03 was not designed in a studio. It was forged on a mountain. When our race program needed a wheel capable of surviving the 12.42-mile, 156-turn assault of Pikes Peak, climbing to a 14,115-foot summit where thin air, savage braking zones, and instant Tesla torque punish anything less than purpose-built hardware, nothing on the market met the brief. So our engineering team in Hawthorne, California designed one from a blank sheet. Every spoke, barrel, and contour was shaped using finite element analysis, producing an I-beam spoke geometry tuned for maximum rigidity under extreme cornering loads, with a knurled inner barrel that locks the tire to the wheel under hard acceleration and braking.
In June of 2023, that wheel proved its pedigree in unmistakable terms. With legendary professional driver Randy Pobst behind the wheel of Dark Helmet, our Pikes Peak race car, the UP-03 carried a 5,000-pound production-based sedan to a staggering 9:54.901 at Pikes Peak. It was the first sub-10-minute run in our program’s history, a top-10 overall finish against 66 purpose-built open-wheel and tube-frame competitors, and a new Modified Production EV record. That same wheel has since gone on to set benchmark lap times at Laguna Seca, Buttonwillow, and Willow Springs under our Tesla Race program.
