Q: Why does an EV need special brake pads at all?
The Model 3 and Model Y carry real weight, and they interleave regenerative braking with friction braking, which creates duty cycles a normal pad is not tuned for. PFC pads here are chosen for friction stability across a broad temperature window and high fade resistance, so the pedal feels the same on the first stop and the tenth. That consistency is what lets you trust the brakes on a mountain descent.
