Q: How does a steel rear bumper compare to keeping the plastic OEM one for towing?
The factory setup tows within Tesla’s ratings, but the plastic bumper offers no rear impact protection and its hitch can’t serve as a lift point. The steel HD bumper adds integrated Hi-Lift jack points plus recovery points and real rear-end protection, all while keeping the hitch function. If you never go off-road or carry recovery gear, the OEM bumper may be enough. For overlanding, the steel version earns its place.
