Q: What are vortex generators and why are they on a mirror cover?

Vortex generators are small raised fins that energize airflow so it stays attached to a surface instead of separating into turbulence. The factory mirror’s leading edge creates a low-energy turbulent pocket on the inside face. We placed three vortex generators just behind that edge to break up one large turbulent zone into three smaller ones. The concept comes straight from aircraft wings, where the same trick delays flow separation.
