Q: Why does lowering a Model Y improve efficiency?

Because it is a flat-bottom vehicle. Lowering it lets air move beneath the car at higher velocity, which reduces the air pressure under the body and cuts aerodynamic drag, and drag is the main enemy of efficiency at speed. Cleaner airflow off the rear helps too. The lowered stance looks better and returns a small range benefit at the same time.
