Last weekend at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park, the Model 3 Ascension-R ran faster than the benchmark car for this program; the Porsche 991 GT3 RS
During this last weekend, we had a great deal of fun at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park, attending Tesla Corsa 14 – thought of by many as the best Tesla track day event in the world. The driver, Oscar Jackson. The vehicle, a brand new 2021 Unplugged Performance Model 3 Ascension-R. The goal, rather simple: to put this street-legal thoroughbred through its paces and to give the TeslaCorsa attendees a glimpse into the world’s most performance-oriented, street-legal Tesla Model 3. In the end, both the Ascension-R shakedown and the entire event proved to be a resounding success.
The car achieved another record-breaking run and we received loads of data for further refinement. In addition, everyone attending got a personal impression of what kind of performance are we squeezing out of this car. A weekend for the books, that’s for sure.
Overall, we couldn’t be happier with the results: the Model 3 Ascension-R ran faster than the benchmark car for this program; the Porsche 991 GT3 RS. This fresh build posted a record lap time of 1:54.2 on street tires, featuring a complete interior and standard Tesla traction control. In traffic! This is a properly fast car in our standard customer delivery form, with a full daily driver trim with optional UP-03 lightweight forged track wheels.
This car will convince a lot of Tesla holdouts on driving dynamics. Matt Farah for example has been critical of Tesla’s but absolutely loved driving this car in the canyons. More to come! – Ben Schaffer, Unplugged Performance president
However, that doesn’t mean that the further development of our Ascension-R program stops there. We are dedicated to continued work on improving both the Model 3 Ascension and Ascension-R. Our quest will take us in some real-world racing scenarios on the 2021 Pikes Peak Race, a true test for our advancements in the performance aspect of this electric vehicle. And by the continued support from our customers, test drivers, and employees, we’re geared to creating some of the fastest, most performance-oriented, street-legal Tesla’s out there.
