We hope the early summer is treating you as well as it’s treating us. Here in Southern California, the sun is up, the roads are clear, and the UP team has been working hard to make sure we are getting back to any and all customer orders and inquiries.
For those of you who have been patiently waiting on your Model Y Performance Aero Kit orders, this one is for you. The wait is over. Our first production batch has arrived, and we are actively shipping.
What We’ve Been Up To
To be honest, we could have shipped sooner if we weren’t so stubborn about getting it right. But that’s how we operate: if it doesn’t look and feel like it belongs on the car, it doesn’t leave the building.
Since revealing the kit last fall, we’ve put genuine miles on our own Model Y Performance demo car with the full aero system installed. We wanted to live with it. Daily drives, canyon runs, freeway driving. What we kept coming back to is how subtle the kit is in the best possible way. You see it and think “did Tesla release a new trim?” That’s the goal. OEM plus.
The Kit, In Case You’re Just Joining Us
The Model Y Performance Full Aero Kit is a six-piece front-to-rear system developed specifically for the 2026+ Juniper Performance trim. Every piece works together as a cohesive system, not a grab bag of parts:
Front Splitter: Replaces the lower front trim and extends forward to add front downforce and reduce high-pressure air sneaking under the car.
Front Canard Set: Mounts beside the front air inlets with a raised outer fence that directs airflow around the bumper corners and adds localized front-end grip, while preserving the factory air curtains.
Rear Diffuser Extension: Lengthens the factory diffuser and adds two central strakes to help airflow expand more smoothly into the wake, improving pressure recovery and rear downforce.
Rear Efficiency Fins: Run along the outer rear quarters to keep side flow attached longer before it enters the wake, supporting the diffuser’s work in the center.
Efficiency Trunk Spoiler: Delays separation and raises pressure over the decklid so air exits more cleanly. The result is a subtle long-tail effect that was validated across 143 CFD simulations.
Optional Carbon Mirror Covers: Full wrap covers with subtle inner vortex guides that clean up airflow around the mirrors and add a refined carbon touch.
Together, the full kit takes the stock Model Y Performance from net lift to net downforce. Every surface lines up with factory geometry and finish. No cutting, no drilling, fully reversible. Lease-friendly, perfectionist-approved.
The CFD Work Behind It
We don’t design aero parts by eye. Our development process ran through 143 CFD simulations, using a transient model with 30 million cells. What we found when testing the Rear Diffuser Extension and Efficiency Trunk Spoiler together was a reduction in drag of approximately 40 newtons, or roughly 2.4 percent, alongside an improvement in net downforce of about 534 newtons.
What does that mean on the road? The car tracks more confidently on long highway sweepers. Crosswinds tug less. Lane changes feel more planted and predictable. None of it comes at the cost of comfort. You’re not driving a track car; you’re driving a better version of what Tesla already built.
The plain language version: the splitter keeps high-pressure air out from under the car. The canards organize airflow at the front corners. The fins guide side flow so it doesn’t spill into the wake too early. The diffuser extension and spoiler manage the exit at the rear. Every piece has a job. Together they reduce the turbulent wake and build a more settled platform at speed.
Installation: Easier Than You’d Think
One of the things we hear most from customers after installing is how clean the process is. Because the kit uses factory mounting locations and factory-style engagement, there’s no drilling, no cutting, no permanent commitment. If you want to go back to stock for any reason, and you can. In practice, most people don’t want to.
We’ve been doing local installations at our Hawthorne, CA facility and the feedback has been consistent: the parts fit cleanly, the finish matches, and the install is straightforward. Tool-light. Reversible. Right the first time.
Shipping Has Started: Your Build Is Next
We have been doing local installs here at UP HQ and are now actively shipping the first wave of pre-orders. If you’re in that group, expect to hear from us soon if you haven’t already. If you’ve been on the fence, now is the time, because the wait for initial production units is behind us.
Whether you go for the full kit or want to start with individual pieces like the Front Splitter, Front Canards, Rear Fins, or Rear Diffuser Extension, every piece is available individually so you can stage your build however you’d like.
We Want to See Your Build
Here’s what we’re genuinely excited about: seeing what you all do with these cars. The aero kit is just one piece of a bigger picture. Pair it with a set of UP forged wheels and you’ve got something that turns heads for all the right reasons: purposeful, refined, and distinctly not stock. We’ve seen some killer builds come through already, and summer is the best time of year for cars like these to be out in the world.
Tag us, send us photos, share your build. We feature customer cars regularly and there is no shortage of ways to make a Model Y Performance stand out while still looking like it rolled off the line that way, which is exactly the kind of taste we respect.
More updates coming as the summer unfolds. In the meantime, thank you for your patience, your support, and your trust in us to get it right.
