The Case for Upgrading Your Tesla Model 3 Suspension
The Tesla Model 3 is one of the best-selling electric vehicles in the world, and for good reason. It is fast, efficient, and packed with technology. But like every mass-produced car, its suspension was engineered to satisfy the broadest possible range of drivers, roads, and conditions. That means Tesla’s engineers had to make compromises, favoring a softer, more compliant tune that prioritizes isolation over engagement. For many owners, that tradeoff is perfectly fine. For drivers who want more from their Model 3, whether that means a tighter feel through corners, a lower stance, or simply a more composed ride at highway speeds, the factory setup leaves room for meaningful improvement.
Unplugged Performance’s Sport Suspension Kit was designed to unlock that improvement without sacrificing the daily livability that makes the Model 3 so appealing in the first place.
Twin-Tube Sport Dampers Built for the Real World
At the core of this kit are four twin-tube adjustable sport shocks, each featuring advanced internal hydraulic bump stop technology and an elongated stroke range. The twin-tube design was chosen deliberately. It delivers a refined, well-controlled ride character across a wide range of conditions while keeping the kit at a price point that makes a real suspension upgrade accessible to more Model 3 owners. Tunable damping valving allows you to dial in the balance between sport and comfort to suit your driving style, and calmer rebound rates deliver increased high-speed stability without the harshness that poorly valved aftermarket shocks often introduce.
The elongated stroke is a critical detail. It gives the damper more room to manage large bumps, expansion joints, and rough pavement before running out of travel. The result is a suspension that feels controlled and planted through corners but never punishing over the real-world road surfaces you encounter every day.
Dual Rate Linear Springs That Do Two Jobs at Once
The optional Dual Rate Linear lowering springs are where this kit truly separates itself from a basic spring swap. Each spring incorporates two distinct spring rates within a single unit. The initial rate is approximately 25% softer than factory, providing a more supple and forgiving ride during normal commuting and cruising. When the suspension compresses further under hard cornering, heavy braking, or aggressive driving, a firmer secondary rate engages progressively to resist body roll and maintain tire contact with the road. You get comfort when you want it and control when you need it, without the compromises that come from choosing a single fixed rate.
Four ride height options let you choose the stance and geometry that matches how you use your car. The Mild setting drops the car 0.7 inches for a subtle visual change with minimal geometry impact. Moderate lowers it 1.5 inches for a noticeably sharper look and improved center of gravity. Low brings a 2.0-inch drop for an aggressive fitment. And the Super Performance option pairs a 1.5-inch drop with spring rates specifically tuned for drivers who push their Model 3 hardest on track days and back roads.
A Smarter Path to Better Handling
Lowering the Model 3 also reduces aerodynamic drag, contributing to improved energy efficiency at highway speeds. Combined with up to 1.5 times the rigidity of factory shocks under load, the entire suspension platform becomes tighter, more responsive, and more communicative without adding noise, vibration, or additional maintenance requirements. Every component in the kit is designed for maintenance-free operation with an extended service life, so the upgrade pays dividends across years of daily ownership.
The Sport Suspension Kit is compatible with all 2017 through 2023 Model 3 variants and 2024+ non-Performance models. Owners of the 2024+ Model 3 Performance can also run this kit with the addition of Unplugged Performance’s Adaptive Suspension Canceller Kit.

Is a Tesla Model 3 suspension upgrade worth it?
If you want sharper cornering or a more composed highway ride, yes. Tesla tuned the factory suspension to satisfy the broadest possible range of drivers, which means compromise. Our Sport Suspension Kit replaces the factory dampers with twin-tube adjustable sport shocks offering up to 1.5 times the rigidity of stock under load, with optional Dual Rate Linear lowering springs. The car tightens up without becoming punishing.
How much will each spring option lower my Model 3?
Four choices. Mild drops the car 0.7 inches for a subtle change with minimal geometry impact, Moderate lowers it 1.5 inches, and Low brings a 2.0-inch drop for aggressive fitment. The Super Performance option pairs the 1.5-inch height with spring rates tuned for drivers who push hardest on track days and back roads. All four use the dual rate design.
What are dual rate lowering springs?
Springs with two distinct rates built into one coil. The initial rate is about 25 percent softer than factory, so normal commuting feels more supple than stock. Compress further under hard cornering or braking and a firmer secondary rate engages progressively, resisting body roll and keeping the tire loaded. You get comfort in daily use and control when pushing, without picking a single fixed compromise.
Can I buy just the shocks without the springs?
Yes. The kit is offered as shocks only for owners who already run UP Dual Rate Linear lowering springs or plan to keep the factory springs. The shocks-only route also suits autocross drivers whose class rules require stock springs. Choose the shocks-only option in the configurator and add springs later if your plans change.
Sport Suspension Kit or Sport Pro coilovers: which should I pick?
Pick this kit if you know the ride height you want and prefer an install-and-forget setup at a lower price. Pick the Sport Pro coilover kit if you want to fine-tune height anywhere from stock to a 2-inch drop and adjust damping across 32 settings on demand. Both were engineered for daily comfort with real cornering ability. The coilover simply adds control.
Will the Sport Suspension Kit work on a 2024 Model 3 Highland?
Yes. It fits all 2017-2023 Model 3 trims and 2024+ non-Performance models directly. Because the 2024+ Model 3 Performance runs factory adaptive dampers, pair this kit on that trim with the Adaptive Suspension Canceller Kit, which keeps the dash free of suspension faults. Select your drivetrain and spring choice in the configurator and the correct application ships.
Does a 1.5-inch drop change highway efficiency on a Model 3?
Lowering helps at highway speed. Bringing the body closer to the ground reduces aerodynamic drag, which improves energy efficiency on the open road. It will not transform your Wh/mi figure, but the direction is positive, which is rare for a performance mod. Pair the drop with efficiency-focused wheels like our 19-inch UP-RW FF wheel and tire package and the gains stack.
Do I need an alignment after installing this kit?
Plan on one if you change ride height. Lowering alters camber and toe from factory spec, and a fresh alignment protects tire life and puts the geometry where the new stance needs it. The kit itself installs in place of the factory shocks and springs with no permanent modifications. We install it at our Hawthorne, CA headquarters for owners in the Los Angeles area.
Will aftermarket shocks and springs void my Tesla warranty?
Not by themselves. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Tesla must prove an aftermarket part caused a specific failure before denying that claim, and installing suspension does not erase coverage on unrelated systems. Keep your factory parts so you can revert if needed. The kit itself is engineered for maintenance-free operation with an extended service life.
Is this kit good for autocross?
It is where we point autocross drivers now that our dedicated Autocross-Spec shock set is discontinued. The shocks-only configuration keeps your factory springs, which many street-tier rulebooks require, and the tunable valving lets you firm the car for runs and soften it for the drive home. Check your sanctioning body’s current rules before competing. Compliance is always the entrant’s responsibility.

Coverage extends to labor for warranty repairs when performed by Unplugged Performance or an authorized installer. It does not cover damage resulting from misuse, accidents, off‑road use, improper installation not done by us, or modifications that aren’t factory-approved.
To file a warranty claim, simply contact our service team. We’ll guide you through inspection, shipping (if needed), and repair or replacement logistics. transparencia and top-tier support are what you can expect from Unplugged.
Will installing Unplugged Performance parts void my Tesla warranty?
Installing aftermarket parts does not automatically void your Tesla warranty. Under the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act (www.sema.org/sema-enews/2011/01/ftc-validates-right-to-install-aftermarket-parts), a manufacturer cannot void your warranty simply because you installed aftermarket parts. Tesla must prove that the aftermarket part caused the specific failure in question to deny a warranty claim. UP recommends retaining all factory parts to allow reverting to stock if needed.
