Some days, being neighbors with SpaceX comes with a pretty good view.
We recently had the pleasure of seeing the Tesla Roadster on display beneath the rocket outside SpaceX in Hawthorne. Even from the public sidewalk, it was a sight worth stopping for. The car sitting beneath a rocket makes quite an impression, especially when that car is something we hope to drive and race one day.
We weren’t the only ones taking it in. SpaceX employees were outside taking photos of the rocket, while others stopped to get pictures with the Roadster. Seeing people stand in front of it or alongside it was part of what made the moment enjoyable. It gave them a chance to get a photo with a car that has inspired plenty of anticipation, curiosity, and conversation.
A View Worth Stopping For
The Roadster looks great in person. Photos give you something to study, but seeing a car in its surroundings brings a different appreciation. In this case, the surroundings happened to include a rocket towering above it.
Off to the side, we also spotted what appeared to be the thruster-equipped version. That naturally gave us even more to talk about on the walk back.
Our visit was strictly a view from the public sidewalk. As neighbors, we respect SpaceX’s private property and the people working there. We didn’t have access to the display area, but we were happy to appreciate the scene from the street.
Looking Forward to Our Turn Behind the Wheel
At Unplugged Performance, seeing the Roadster brings our thoughts straight to driving it. We’re excited by the possibility of one day getting our hands on one, learning how it responds, and taking it to the track.
There’s plenty we want to discover from behind the wheel. How it feels through a corner. How it puts its power down. What it’s like to push it lap after lap. Those are experiences we look forward to having for ourselves.
For now, we’re glad we got to see it in our neighborhood and that others had the opportunity to capture a moment alongside it. We hope appearances like this become more frequent.
A Roadster beneath a rocket is a memorable sight. One waiting for us in the pit lane would be even better.
