Cast aluminum OEM wheels form as poured metal, which leaves them more brittle at the rim when a pothole hits hard. Forging compresses the aluminum grain under pressure, so it bends far less easily and resists cracking. The UP-RW Road Warrior is a 6061-T6 forged monoblock rated to exceed 950 kg of load per wheel, which UP calls the strongest wheel available for the Model 3 and Model Y. That is the whole point of the design.
