Q: Why does the 18-inch diameter improve ride comfort on a Model Y?

Because the tire is what actually cushions the cabin. An 18-inch wheel runs a taller sidewall with more air between the rim and the road, so it absorbs bumps big and small and lets less noise, vibration, and harshness reach you than a low-profile factory setup. These 18-inch PD packages are tuned to maximize that isolation. The forged wheel keeps strength high while the taller tire does the smoothing.
