Q: Do carbon mirror caps do anything aerodynamically, or are they cosmetic?
They do a little of both. Built with aerospace-inspired vortex generators on the inner edge, these covers encourage airflow attachment and reduce local turbulence, which is genuine CFD-tested function at the mirror. The effect is subtle, as you would expect from a mirror-sized part. The bigger draw for most owners is the full-wrap carbon look. Calling them purely cosmetic would sell the vortex generators short.
