Q: Does correcting rear camber actually improve grip on track?

It does. Setting negative camber keeps more of the tire flat on the road when the car leans in a corner, which enlarges the contact patch right when you need it. That translates to more mechanical grip through the turn. On a heavy Model X pushed hard, dialing camber to suit the tire is one of the higher-value rear suspension changes you can make.
