Q: Is this a wear-replacement part or a performance upgrade?

Mostly a performance upgrade. Where the front lower compliance arms exist largely to cure worn, knocking factory bushings, this rear traction arm is chosen to tighten how the rear end puts down power and holds alignment. You would fit it to make a healthy car sharper, not only to silence an old one. That said, the sealed spherical bushings also outlast the soft factory rubber, so you get durability alongside the feel.
