Q: What is the knurled bead seat on the UP-04 for?

It stops the tire from slipping on the rim. Knurled bead seats are small uniform ridges along the wheel edge where the tire bead sits, and they bite into the bead like teeth to lock it in place during high-torque acceleration or hard braking. On an instant-torque EV like the Model Y, that grip matters. The UP-04 design was also run through simulation testing to find and reinforce stress points before production.
