Q: Why do stainless steel brake lines make the pedal feel firmer?

The Model S ships with rubber brake lines, and rubber expands slightly under hard braking. That expansion soaks up pressure that should be squeezing the pads, which is what makes the pedal feel spongy. Stainless steel lines resist that swelling, so more of your pedal effort reaches the caliper. The result is a firmer, more consistent pedal and more precise brake response when you are driving with intent.
