Why Your Tesla Model X Needs a Serious Brake Upgrade
The Tesla Model X is one of the heaviest and most powerful SUVs on the road. The Plaid variant produces over 1,000 horsepower and accelerates harder than most supercars, yet it rides on a braking system designed to balance cost and mass-market comfort. When you are hauling a 5,500+ pound vehicle from triple-digit speeds or managing repeated high-G stops on a canyon road, the factory brakes reach their thermal limits long before the rest of the car reaches its performance limits. Brake fade, longer stopping distances, and pedal softness under sustained load are the predictable outcome of asking a stock system to manage forces it was never sized for.
Unplugged Performance’s Superlight Carbon Ceramic Front Big Brake Kit was engineered specifically to close that gap.
Built Around a 15.5″ Carbon Ceramic Rotor
The centerpiece of this system is a 15.5-inch carbon ceramic rotor that delivers a 93% increase in pad-to-rotor contact area compared to the factory setup, jumping from 77.5 cm² to 149.4 cm². More swept area means more friction surface working for you during every stop, translating directly into shorter braking distances and dramatically higher thermal capacity. Carbon ceramic construction also sheds over 25 pounds of unsprung weight from the front axle, sharpening steering response and reducing rotational inertia so the vehicle changes direction with noticeably less effort.
6-Piston Monoblock Calipers in Red or Black
Clamping force is delivered through 6-piston monoblock calipers, available in bold red, gloss black, or a custom color of your choice. The monoblock design is machined from a single piece of material rather than bolted together in halves, giving the caliper body greater rigidity under extreme clamping loads. That rigidity translates into a firmer, more progressive pedal feel and more consistent pad wear across the entire rotor face. Choose the red calipers for a striking contrast behind your wheels or the black calipers for a stealthier, factory-integrated look. The performance is identical and the visual impact is undeniable either way.
Pad Compounds Tailored to How You Drive
Every kit ships with your choice of a street-and-track-day compound or a dedicated racing compound. The street compound performs quietly and consistently from cold starts through spirited driving, while the racing compound is formulated for sustained high-temperature stops where factory pads would have faded laps ago. Replacement pads are available individually so you can switch compounds as your demands change.
Complete Kit, Confidence Included
The full kit includes both 6-piston calipers, both 15.5″ carbon ceramic rotors with top hats, brake pads, billet caliper adapter brackets, and stainless steel brake lines for front and rear. It fits factory 19″ wheels and is compatible with 21″ Arachnid wheels, all Unplugged Performance wheels, and most aftermarket 19″+ options. Installation is available at Unplugged Performance’s Los Angeles facility or through their authorized installer network.
