Five Months Is Too Long to Look at Wheels You Do Not Like

In a real winter climate the winter set goes on in early November and comes off in late March. That is roughly 40 percent of the year, and for a Model Y it is often the harder-working 40 percent, because winter is when the car does the most short-trip family duty.

The standard approach to that stretch is a set of wheels chosen for expendability. It is defensible on paper and unsatisfying in a driveway. A Model Y is a car people specify carefully, choose a color for, and notice every morning. Handing it a set of afterthought wheels for almost half of every year is a strange way to own it.

The UP-05 19-Inch Wheel and Winter Tire Package takes the other approach. Run a wheel you chose, one that is lighter than the factory part, forged rather than cast, and engineered to handle exactly what winter does to wheels.

Hypercar Design, on the Family Crossover

The UP-05 came from a collaboration between Unplugged Performance and Sasha Selipanov, whose work has shaped the look of several of the most significant hypercars of the last decade. His signature is on every wheel. The design brief was to merge elegance with aggressive performance rather than pick one, and in a 19×9 +25 fitment on a Model Y it does both without looking overdone on a family vehicle.

Underneath, it is forged 6061-T6 aluminum, from as little as 19 pounds per wheel. That is lighter than most of the factory wheels it replaces, and on a crossover that carries more weight and sits higher than a sedan, reducing unsprung mass improves how precisely the suspension can control each wheel over broken pavement. Winter pavement is broken pavement.

The wheels are engineered to work with Tesla’s OEM center caps, lug nuts, and TPMS sensors, and were validated through track testing to confirm they hold up in the harshest conditions for both track use and daily driving.

Fits Every Model Y, Including the Juniper Refresh

This package fits all Tesla Model Y years and trims, from 2020 through the current cars including the 2026 Juniper refresh, regardless of whether your vehicle was delivered on 19-, 20-, or 21-inch factory wheels.

The 19×9 +25 fitment with a 255/45R19 winter tire matches the factory 19-inch overall diameter, keeping speedometer, odometer, range estimation, and the stability system’s wheel-speed assumptions accurate all season.

Coming from factory 20s or 21s, this package adds sidewall you will feel immediately. Winter roads deteriorate faster than any other season’s, and the taller sidewall absorbs frost heave, plow ridges, and freshly opened potholes rather than transmitting them into the wheel and the suspension.

Forged Construction Against the Impacts Winter Creates

A cast wheel is made by pouring molten aluminum into a mold. It solidifies with no aligned grain structure, and under a sharp impact it tends to crack. A forged wheel is formed under enormous pressure, compressing and aligning the grain, producing a wheel that resists impact and deforms before it fractures.

Winter is a season built out of sharp impacts. Potholes that appear between one commute and the next. Curbs hidden entirely under plowed snow. Pavement seams that heave an inch out of alignment during a hard freeze. On a Model Y, which is heavier than the Model 3 it shares a platform with and frequently loaded with people and cargo on top of that, every one of those impacts arrives with more force behind it.

The forged construction of the UP-05 is what keeps a bad hit in January from becoming a wheel replacement in February.

Square Fitment and Why It Pays on a Winter Set

The 19×9 +25 fitment is square, identical at all four corners, so tires rotate front to rear on a normal schedule. We also offer this package in 19×9.5 +35 if you would like a wider tire.

Winter tires are the most expensive tires per usable mile most people buy. They work for part of the year, and their softer compounds wear faster under the constant torque application and regenerative braking of an electric crossover. Rotation is the simplest way to spread that wear across four tires instead of two, and on a Model Y doing family-car mileage, it routinely turns a three-winter set into a four-winter set.

Three Winter Tires for Three Kinds of Winter

Every package includes four UP-05 forged wheels, four tires, four TPMS sensors, and mount and balance labor.

Michelin X-Ice Snow Wheel and Winter Tire Package

Best for: Owners facing ice, packed snow, and sustained deep cold. The X-Ice Snow is a studless winter specialist using a full silica-based compound that holds its flexibility in severe cold, plus a rigid polymer inclusion in the tread for extra bite. Michelin reports ice braking distances up to 2.7 meters shorter than a leading competitor. When the vehicle is carrying your family on a road that has iced over, that number is the one that counts.

Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 Wheel and Winter Tire Package

Best for: Owners who want the most refined winter setup available for the car. This is the 104W XL Tesla ELECT version, a specification Pirelli develops for electric vehicles rather than a standard Winter Sottozero 3 fitted to a Tesla. The ELECT marking covers construction rated for the additional weight an EV carries, a compound tuned for instant electric torque, and reduced rolling resistance to limit the range cost of a winter tire.

The tire also uses Pirelli’s PNCS noise-cancelling system, sound-absorbing foam bonded inside the tire casing. That matters more on a Model Y than on almost anything else. There is no engine noise to cover road roar, and winter tires are the loudest tires most owners will ever fit, so the difference is audible on the first drive.

Pairing that with the UP-05 makes a specific kind of sense. This is the package for owners who care how the car looks and how it feels, and who are not willing to accept five months of a noisier, duller version of it. It is a performance winter tire, so grip and steering response stay sharp alongside the refinement.

Vredestein Wintrac Pro Wheel and Winter Tire Package

Best for: Owners who want broad capability rather than specialization. The Wintrac Pro is an ultra-high-performance winter tire developed for 17-inch and larger wheels, rated to 300 km/h, and it performs well across snow, wet, and dry conditions with steering feel above the category norm. It also rates strongly for tread life, which pairs well with rotation on this square fitment. The balanced choice for a winter that is mostly cold and wet with regular snow events.

What You Get for the Investment

A dedicated winter set on its own wheels ends the annual dismount and remount cycle, along with its labor cost, rebalancing, and the cumulative wear it puts on tire beads and wheel bead seats. It keeps your summer wheels out of salt and brine for five months, which is the single most damaging environment a wheel finish ever sees. It lets both sets of tires operate only within the temperature range they were designed for, extending the life of each.

Then add a forged wheel lighter than the OEM piece, four finishes to match how you specified the car, square fitment that lets you rotate, three tire choices so you can match your actual climate, and a design signed by one of the most respected names working in automotive design today. That is not a winter compromise. It is the set you will be glad to bolt on in November.

      Frequently Asked Questions - F.A.Q.
Everything you need to know about this product before you buy.

What does the Unplugged Performance product warranty cover?

Unplugged Performance offers a comprehensive warranty on all parts and installations performed by our certified technicians. Warranty coverage applies to defects in materials and workmanship on items including lowering springs, coilovers, big brake kits, brake pads, stainless steel brake lines, shocks, and more. Should any covered part fail under normal use or display premature wear, we will repair or replace it at no additional cost—assuming the component was installed by us or at one of our authorized partners.

This warranty is valid for 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, excluding consumable products like brake pads, rotors, and tires, starting from the installation date. Coverage extends to labor for warranty repairs when performed by Unplugged Performance or an authorized installer. It does not cover damage resulting from misuse, accidents, off‑road use, improper installation not done by us, or modifications that aren’t factory-approved.

To file a warranty claim, simply contact our service team. We’ll guide you through inspection, shipping (if needed), and repair or replacement logistics. transparencia and top-tier support are what you can expect from Unplugged.

Will installing Unplugged Performance parts void my Tesla warranty?

Installing aftermarket parts does not automatically void your Tesla warranty. Under the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act (www.sema.org/sema-enews/2011/01/ftc-validates-right-to-install-aftermarket-parts), a manufacturer cannot void your warranty simply because you installed aftermarket parts. Tesla must prove that the aftermarket part caused the specific failure in question to deny a warranty claim. UP recommends retaining all factory parts to allow reverting to stock if needed.

What are the shipping options and times?

Unplugged Performance processes orders quickly, typically within 1–2 business days after placement. For U.S. customers, orders under $50 usually ship via FedEx SmartPost with an estimated delivery time of 2–7 business days. Larger items like body kits or bumpers may ship via freight carriers with curbside delivery; customers will be contacted to schedule a delivery window.
