Q: How does a forged wheel like UP-04 compare with a flow-formed one?

Forging presses a solid aluminum billet under enormous pressure, aligning the grain for the highest strength-to-weight, which is why UP-04 is crafted in 6061 forged aluminum. Flow-formed wheels are lighter than plain cast but generally not as strong as forged for the weight. On a heavy Model X, the forged route gives more impact resistance and lets the wheel run lighter, which helps ride and response.
