Q: Will a knurled bead seat actually matter on a Tesla?

On an instant-torque EV, yes, more than on most cars. The UP-05 machines a knurled ring into the bead seat to help grip the tire and resist it slipping on the rim under hard acceleration and heavy braking. Model 3 Performance puts down torque the moment you touch the pedal, which is exactly the load that can rotate a tire on a smooth bead. It is a small detail that earns its keep.
