Rubber offers notable advantages from both the manufacturer’s and owner’s perspectives, as it’s known for its durability, resilience, longevity, and, crucially, cost-effectiveness. Nevertheless, there are inherent compromises associated with rubber brake lines, primarily their tendency to expand and contract when subjected to hard braking maneuvers. This expansion leads to a soft and somewhat spongy brake pedal sensation, which, counterintuitively, translates into a reduction in braking effectiveness and responsiveness that can be perceptibly felt.
To further enhance the factory braking performance of the 2021+ Model X and Model X Plaid, we have developed our Stainless Steel Sport Brake Line Set. This upgrade is strongly recommended for those seeking heightened performance and improved brake feel in their Model X. Upon installing the Stainless Steel Sport Brake Line Set, drivers will immediately notice a firmer and consistently responsive brake pedal, particularly during spirited driving. For optimal performance, we highly recommend pairing these upgraded brake lines with high-temperature racing brake fluid such as Motul RBF 660, PFC RH 665, Endless RF 650, Castrol SRF, or similar racing brake fluids—standard practice for any brake upgrade. While these brake lines function effectively with OEM Dot 4 fluid, it’s important to note that under performance driving conditions, the OEM fluid tends to produce a soft pedal feel, irrespective of the robustness of your brake lines.
