Built specifically for the new Model Y Performance refreshed generation (Juniper), this upgrade extends the factory rear diffuser and integrates two central strakes that guide underbody air with greater precision. The result is a sharper OEM+ appearance with functionally better aerodynamics.
Science-Backed Results in Style
The design was developed and validated with CFD so it is more than a simple styling add-on. By extending the diffuser farther rearward, the Unplugged Performance Rear Diffuser Extension increases the effective working area of the diffuser where pressure is lower, which adds rear downforce and helps the car feel more planted through fast sweepers and highway lane changes. The longer exit also helps the airflow expand more smoothly into the wake behind the vehicle, improving pressure recovery and trimming turbulence drag. The two added strakes keep the flow organized and attached further behind the vehicle, which delays separation and supports overall efficiency. In simulation, when paired with our Carbon Efficiency Spoiler, the system reduced drag by approximately 40 newtons, about 2.4 percent, and improved net downforce by about 534 newtons using a transient CFD model with 30 million cells.
